This is sort of a YouTube experiment. It has some behind the scenes style footage and coverage of this great rally in Frazier Park, CA. I talk about surface and tech inspection. We look at a mean Volvo and capture some bumpy in-car. Check it out! Comment if you like / dislike the format. – Kris
I’m a fan of the vlog style. It is refreshing to see that applied to rally. Brings more of a face to Rallynotes, similar to ACP’s YouTube videos.
tip for incar: a lot of people might think you’re going slower than you actually are because of the camera angle, high to low shots incar make it seem faster just because there’s that much less horizon in the shot (just like not looking ahead slows you down because it feels way faster).
Congrats with the result.
heh – no… I was going slow.
Another way to trick in-car into looking a lot faster is to mess with the frames per second. 15-20FPS video (vs standard 30FPS) looks faster because you don’t see that tree until it’s on top of you. I think it’s sort of ‘cheating’ so I don’t mess with it. Now that I’m using standard RCA cables for power and video to the camera I’ll probably start experimenting with some outside shots. I wanted to do a pedal cam, but didn’t have enough time to get the cam mounted in a place where it was not in my way.
My non-rally friends seemed to enjoy that a lot more then 7 minutes of in-car.
Thanks for the feedback!

Yea. The blog feel will attract more than just racers. While we car obsessed folk love just seeing incar and neat things the car does, most people won’t connect with that. Adding that face suddenly makes them respond and go “OH! He’s talking to me! I’ll listen!”.
Even if you were going slow, it’s better than DNFing (especially points and money wise ). Also what’s with you having “non rally friends”, I dont believe they exist

I finally got a chance to watch the video on a computer with sound! Very nicely done, Kris. IMO, the best rallynotes.com video to date. Definitely keep this format going. (And kudos for using some rock this time around. What was that, Sevendust? Nice!)
Ding! Correct Doctor.
Thanks! We’ll see how this format continues to evolve. I’m looking forward to the cross country Rally New York video.

You rock. Look, I have a question – is it really expensive to participate in rally? and can you please tell me, at least aproximately, how much do you have to spend on a FWD car (’94 sentra) to get it ready?
